Gail Bisson

Gail is a self-taught bird photographer who began photographing birds in 2011. Her passion for birds started after a trip to Tanzania in 2011. She photographed a lilac-breasted roller with her point and shoot camera and loved the results. This was her “spark” bird. Upon her return to Nova Scotia, she googled “bird photography” and joyfully jumped into the rabbit hole. This hobby/passion has translated into wonderful trips to remote countries, wonderful new friends and a desire for conserving natural habitats for birds. She supports the Nature Trust of Nova Scotia and the Nature Conservancy of Canada.

Gail has taken images that made the finals in the BBC Wildlife Contest and Nature’s Best as well as several images that placed in Audubon's Top 100 . In 2020 she won the Audubon Photography Award (Amateur division) , the BPOTY (Bird Photographer of the Year) "Inspirational Encounters" category with an image of a Providence Petrel from Lord Howe Island and the Inaugural KingBirder Contest 2020. She was a finalist in the Birdwatching Magazine “Color of Birds” contest and the Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards. She is a judge for WildArtPOTY, Kingbirder and is very much looking forward to her involvement with Birdlife Australia Photography Competition.
