Raoul Slater

Raoul Slater has been photographing wild birds for such a long time that he remembers when it was difficult. Nowadays he is grateful to own a light, weatherproof, autofocus camera that operates at a high ISO, making possible any imaginable image. Raoul spends more of his time dreaming up wonderful photos than taking them.

Raoul joins our judging panel this year with a special interest in the monochrome entries. His father, acclaimed author and artist Peter Slater, was also a fine darkroom technician. Raoul plans to honour Peter's memory with a special monochrome achievement award. He will be looking for images that show a delight in feathers and flight.
